@SvenBothe @tinker @signalapp Technically, #SignalDesktop does not require a phone to sync with.

It requires a primary device to sync with at least once every 30 days... that duration could have been reduced since I checked last.

My primary device is my Linux desktop running Signal-Cli from Flathub.

A phone number is required once to activate a new account - at registration time only - afaik, and I still hate that requirement, for the record.

Screenshot of #SignalDesktop I took last year on #Librem5.

Regarding browsers, the default #FirefoxESR does not need any zooming in, and neither does #GnomeWeb, #Kumo or #AngelFish. On #BraveBrowser, I zoom in 125%.

Btw, being able to use desktop apps on #LinuxMobile is generally considered one of its advantages!

If you need to get signal-desktop working on a Linux machine where you don't have root and are using nix home-manager to install programs then you may need to use `signal-desktop --no-sandbox --disable-gpu` or it will die with an error about not being able to start the sandbox or finding the GPU libraries. #Signal #SignalDesktop
If you are trying to get signal-desktop to work and it is not working because you need to use one of the undocumented command line flags then this bug report where the community lists the undocumented command line flags they have found may be helpful (there is no --help): https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/3518 #Signal #SignalDesktop

Wow, Signal opens up to more Linux distros 🥳
I would have preferred a Flatpak, but anything official will do!
Tested in Fedora 43 : runs flowlessly.

the #MollyFOSS fork supposedly allows for linking more devices.

otherwise, #signaldesktop in #debian #proot in #termux?

or use a #e2ee messenger that doesn't limit multiple accounts or linking, like #deltachat.

Question for Linux folks using Signal

With the latest Signal Desktop, is anyone else having UX issues? Over here, Signal Desktop’s window lost its X button to close the window. Currently using elementaryOS.

Signal version is 7.79.0

Using elementaryOS 8

Boosts welcome

  • Devuan Linux daedalus, aktueller Stand
  • X11 mit icewm

@dos @ati1 @linmob That automatic switching from speaker to handset is only for the Calls app, right?

I was referring to #e2ee voice calls on #SignalDesktop, #ElementMessenger, #DinoIM and #DeltaChat. I did try #PureOS Crimson alpha a few days ago but forgot to test this, so would definitely be interested if there's any news regarding this : )
