Kelp Collection chair by Interesting Times Gang

Dezeen Showroom: Swedish studio Interesting Times Gang has designed a 3D-printed chair made from recycled fishing nets.

Named Kelp Collection, the chair has a curved and organic shape that is made possible by 3D printing.

Recycled fishing nets used in the chair's material gives it a bright green colour

"Kelp Collection is inspired by biomimicry, with undulating lines and organically swaying silhouettes to emulate the forms found in ocean vegetation," said Interesting Times Gang.

"The design is also ergonomically functional and gives the chair a very nice dampening effect which makes it an absolute joy to sit in."

Kelp Collection chairs have an organic shape, informed by ocean vegetation

"The chair was created to bring attention to the fact that vast amounts of known underwater kelp forests have been eradicated due to unsustainable fishing practices and rising ocean temperatures," the brand continued.

Kelp Collection is made from a material that uses recycled maritime gear such as ropes and fishing nets, which is where it gets its green colour from.

The maritime gear is combined with wood fibres, a recycled FSC-certified bi-product from the saw mill industry, to create the furniture's bio-composite material.

The chair is made by 3D printing

Kelp Collection can be ground down into bio-materials and reused to create new objects.

The chair was originally designed for chefs Niclas Jönsson and Daniel Höglander, who wanted custom furniture for their sushi restaurant in Stockholm.

Romb Mini lamp by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Pholc

Dezeen Showroom: Swedish lighting brand Pholc has collaborated with Broberg & Ridderstråle to create Romb Mini, a portable table lamp made from two stacked aluminum shapes designed to imitate cardboard.

Romb Mini is the outcome of Pholc's most recent collaboration with Swedish designers Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle, and the lamp compliments its larger cousin Romb, which was released last year.

Romb Mini is battery-powered and lightweight making it suitable for a variety of uses

The Romb Mini is made portable thanks to its compact size, lightweight aluminum construction, and battery-powered light source.

"Use it as a centerpiece on a dinner table or as a companion on a sideboard. As adaptable and interesting in a home as in a lobby," said Pholc.

The lamp comes in four neutral colourways

"We formulated a concept using corrugated cardboard shapes, a material that we use a lot when building architectural prototypes," explained Mats Broberg.

The lamp comes in a variety of colours, including vanilla, cotton, cumin, or blue stone, which allows the ridged profile of the Romb Mini to remain a focal point.

The Lugano dining chair features a curved backrest supported by an elegant timber frame

Each chair consists of three components – the back and armrests, the seat pad and the frame – all of which can be replaced or updated over the chair's lifetime to reduce its environmental footprint.

Sarpi Office Pro table by Carlo Scarpa for Cassina

Dezeen Showroom: based on an inverted version of a popular design, the Sarpi Office Pro table by Carlo Scarpa for furniture brand Cassina is now being made available with a timber top.

Scarpa designed the Sarpi Office Pro table in 1974, borrowing from an earlier design of his, the sculptural Doge table.

The Sarpi table alludes to its predecessor with its features, but turns its recognisable base upside-down.

This inversion gives it a smaller footprint, making it suitable for office spaces of all different sizes.

It includes integrated power access and a cable slot

The Sarpi Office Pro table was originally made in glass and metal, but there is now the option of a timber top.

The tabletop also features integrated power access and a cable slot at its centre. Various electrical configurations are available.

Turn and Turn+ portable lamps by Nao Tamura for Ambientec

Dezeen Showroom: the Turn and Turn+ family of lighting is a series of rechargeable and portable lamps that can provide up to 500 hours of light, created by Nao Tamura for Japanese brand Ambientec.

New York-based Japanese designer Tamura created the Turn desk lamp in 2019 for Ambientec. The lamp combines high-tech lighting with detailed artisanal craftsmanship and fine materials.

Turn is characterised by its sleek metal form that contrasts the soft, radiant glow emanating from the light

The Turn collection is designed as a study of contrasts: the elegant metallic forms juxtapose the soft, candle-like glow emitted from the circular shades.

The lamp features an integrated touch sensor, which is activated through a gentle tap on the top of the shade. This enables the intensity of the light to be adjusted or dimmed in order to suit a wide range of activities.

The Turn lamps are cordless, rechargeable, waterproof and dust-resistant

Its cordless design means that the lamp can be used in a wide array of settings including bedrooms, bathrooms, hotels, restaurants, and even outdoors on balconies or gardens. The lamp is waterproof and features an enclosure that prevents dust ingress.

Like its predecessor, Turn+ is carved from a block of robust metals such as stainless steel, brass or black aluminum, which have been selected for their durability. The new addition is also available with the choice of solid glass for its diffuser.

Shapes from Home furniture collection by Levi Christiansen

Dezeen Showroom: American designer Levi Christiansen journeyed into his childhood dreams to create the tables, seating and shelving in the Shapes from Home collection, which explores otherworldly imagery through woodwork.

Christiansen was inspired to create the Shapes from Home collection after his mother had a chance encounter with an oracle, who brought up the vivid dreams he'd had as a child.

The Shapes from Home collection includes the marble-topped Plural coffee table

It prompted him to revisit the imagery of those dreams, in which he frequently visited a home he'd never seen in real life. The surreal forms in the Shapes from Home collection are derived from those dreams.

The Plural coffee table, for example, features oblong panels of walnut wood with green marble tops and legs shaped like triangular prisms, blending rounded and angled shapes.

The Rhoco chair features a wedge-shaped backrest upholstered in wool and mohair boucle

Made with traditional woodworking techniques, the Rhoco chair contrasts a wedge-shaped backrest upholstered in wool and mohair boucle with a flat, tapered frame.

The Juntos shelf has subtle divisions in its symmetry that emphasise the beauty of the cascading joinery while the Straddle side table has a sculptural presence, with two playfully tapered legs holding up a cantilevered top.

The Juntos shelf is made from solid walnut wood

Finally, the There, There sofa is almost fully upholstered in ink-coloured leather, with a contrasting timber back and feet. All of the pieces are made with solid walnut wood.

"While Shapes From Home is inspired by an abstract idea, my design philosophy is rooted in creating balanced and beautiful furniture," said Christiansen.

Accanta tables by Maddalena Casadei for Pretziada

Dezeen Showroom: designed by Maddalena Casadei for Pretziada, the Accanta tables are carved from Sardinian cork and based on a type of furniture traditional to the region.

Accanta is a trio of small tables that reference a traditional stool with a cork bark seat that Casadei observed in Sardinia.

The Accanta Reading table is the largest in the series

The traditional stools are lightweight, durable and versatile. They would often be carried by people taking sheep out to pasture or picking olives.

Casadei's versions are pressed and carved entirely from Sardinian cork, which is left completely natural with no varnish or lacquer.

All three tables are carved from cork that's left unvarnished

"Cork is a material that has always fascinated me because it is part of the Mediterranean and especially Sardinian culture," said Casadei. "Cork oak is essential for the local ecosystem and its processing does not harm plants, animals or humans."

Accanta comes in three sizes: a larger reading table and a smaller teacup table and magazine table.

The tables are made in collaboration with the family-run workshop Falegnameria Pisu, which created the dense waste cork blocks used for Accanta.

Pigreco chair by Tobia Scarpa for Tacchini

Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Tacchini has reissued the Pigreco chair by architect Tobia Scarpa, characterised by its "elegance of ratio" created through the combination of geometries and intersecting lines.

The Pigreco chair was originally designed as Scarpa's graduation project in 1959 at the University of Venice.

Tacchini collaborated with the Italian architect to create an updated version of the chair to better complement contemporary residential settings.

Italian architect Tobia Scarpa updated his 1959 Pigreco chair to better suit contemporary interiors

Designed to "represent the concept of dynamism", the new edition of Pigreco, which includes new finishes and materials, stays true to its original form:

"Now I look at it and think, in the field of chairs, what else is left to be invented? This one is more than enough," explained Scarpa.

"After so many years, I look at it and [...] to me, personally, nothing has changed."

The chair is characterised by two back sister legs that offer structural support and stability

The chair is composed of an enveloping backrest that seamlessly leads into four wooden legs and a curved seat that sits atop a triangular base.

Pigreco offers an alternative to archetypical wooden chairs in that the two back legs, which were conceived by Scarpa as "sister legs", stand close together, separated by a narrow gap but still connected via a simple wooden joint to offer structural strength.

The reissued chair now comes in a Canaletto walnut or ash wood finish with optional leather and fabric upholstery for the seat

Its holistic design conveys a sense of space and means that the components are intended to be part of the structure itself, as opposed to just supporting elements.

The new edition includes a Canaletto walnut finish as well as an ash wood finish that comes in shades of walnut or dark grey. The chair is also available with cushions upholstered in leather or fabric.

Alada folding desk by Daniel Garcia Sanchez for Woodendot

Dezeen Showroom: Daniel Garcia Sanchez has created a space-saving folding desk for Woodendot that doubles as a decorative shelf.

In one swift movement, the Alada desk can be transformed into a display shelf for small decorative items such as picture frames, candles or plants.

The Alada desk can be transformed into a decorative shelf

The desk was conceived in response to the growing need for flexible workspaces in the home.

The aim is to help users delineate their work time from their private time.

The desk was designed to help users distinguish between work time and private time

"Separating your personal time from your work time when doing home office can be challenging," explained Sanchez, who co-founded Woodendot alongside Maria Vargas in 2013.

"The need for that closing time, for that literal act of saying 'work is over for today' was something I couldn't find no matter how much I looked. This is where the idea for Alada was born. What if you could just close your workstation and forget about it until you need it again?"

The space-saving desk has a small footprint and has hidden storage space when folded up

The multifunctional desk also features hidden storage space when folded up to conceal slimline objects such as notebooks or laptops.

It can be installed at any height and its minimal footprint allows it to fit even into small spaces.

The Alada desk is available in oak wood with a natural or white lacquered finish, as well as in ash wood with a choice of white or black lacquer. Other custom finishes are available on request.
