Protesters brought a catapult to launch burning tires into the French city of Quimper after demands that the hospital, suffering a doctor shortage, should open 24 hours a day and that staff numbers be increased, were ignored.

The protest comes in the wake of the death of a six-month-old girl who was brought to the hospital, but due to greed causing a lack of staff, was left unattended and untreated.

Hospital management and city authorities deny wrong doing and refuse to comment.

Do not confuse short-staffed and understaffed.

Short-staffed is when two people call out sick unexpectedly, or someone is fired for cause. It is expected to a very short term interruption of smooth operations.

Understaffed is when someone decides that the work of ten people can be done by six people. There is no plan to hire anyone to alleviate the stress and increased workload.
