blown about by the spring breeze,
the flowers too,
laugh.
春風にふき出し笑ふ花も哉
haiku by matsuo basho
this was my first attempt at both kana and using a 6-character grid. not super happy with it, but i'm starting to grasp the basics of kaisho (regular script).
#DecemberAdventure (ides of march edition) day 6 (already??)
1. more #uxn noodling -- i wrote a little iterative routine to compute integer square roots (code pic attached -- it's just for bytes, but can be extended to shorts). it uses the observation that if N >= x^2 then N - 2(1+..+x-1) >= x. the largest such x is the integer square root, if i didn't screw up my algebra. i'm not too happy with the implementation because i'm sure there's a way to write it more naturally.
2. made the first piece of #shodo #calligraphy that i'm actually reasonably happy about! yay!
#DecemberAdventure (ides of march edition) day 4.
busy busy, but did manage to find the time to try out a 3-character per sheet #shodo practice. i only had time for one attempt, and the proportions look very child-like, but i suppose everyone has to start somewhere.
the reading (vertically right-to-left) is hatsudayori, and is roughly translated to "first correspondence" (of the year, say)
