Made it to the "Cave of Wisdom" in #ShiningInTheDarkness. Overall very well made game so far. My chief complaint is the time it takes to shade negative space on the map.

At this point, I'm pretty much kit'ed out with the best that the town sells, so I'm going to start needing better loot.

While I'm still very much loving #ShiningInTheDarkness one thing I don't love is "worm tunnel" style dungeons. Just look at all the wasted space. (Yes, I'm aware I drew this upside-down. There wasn't anything particularly confusing here so I just rolled with it.)

I avoided floor 2; will go back and map that, and see if I can find a way to that blank area in the middle.

I've been a bit surprised by the difficulty (or lack there of). I had heard this game was very difficult but it has put up very little resistance this far.

One of the things I am really loving in #ShiningInTheDarkness is the random, random encounters. Sometimes when you turn a corner, go over a puddle, or open a chest, an enemy (often pretty powerful) shows up instead. The first time I encountered the water dude was pretty funny; I was literally debating with myself if the water puddles matter and if I should start marking them on my map when it popped out. The crab is also a neat benchmark for how powerful the player is. It was the first boss and you had to fight it alone and under-equipped. It's a brilliant feeling to one-shot it later! #Sega #SegaGenesis #MegaDrive #Shining

What's with the face of shopkeepers in #ShiningInTheDarkness when you go to pick which character gets the item? They are all super goofy. Judging from the Alkemist, I think it might be a 4th-wall thing where they are shocked that the GUI showed up. #sega #segagenesis

Started "Shining in the Darkness# tonight. I personally don't like "worm tunnel" dungeons (they are too big and feel empty), this game is super charming and has a lot of character for a game in this genre. The gameplay feels like an evolution of the first Phantasy Star, but the style is proto-Etrian Odyssey.

Shining in the Darkness ist durchgespielt. Über 23 Tage lang, jeden Tag circa 1,5 Stunden und ich habe endlich das letzte "Gaming-Trauma" meiner Kindheit bewältigt.

I've slowed down on Steam purchases, 'cuz #games just don't excite me like they used to. I remember #eccothedolphin scaring the pants off me as a kid. The thrill of making it to a new level in Sonic or the triumph of finally finishing #ShiningintheDarkness. I just don't feel the wonder anymore. The writing seldom seems any good. The music doesn't stir me, not like in old favorites like #StarOcean 2 or #Ffix.

I'm hoping #SilkSong will excite me. Nearly every other new game I've tried lately, I've just bounced off of. I don't feel like putting in the 'work' to see what it has to offer because the gameplay isn't rewarding.

Maybe I'm just playing the wrong kinds of games. I still need to finish the #Subnautica sequel. I haven't been back to #Satisfactory for months. I never bothered finishing #Bioshock Infinite, and also need to finish the #Systemshock remake.

I also want to try making my own game with #RenPy but can't muster the energy or motivation to get that started either. #gaming
