I just finished a two session one shot #ShiftRPG game with some friends with the Dragonknights of Ygara worldspark. As usual, the players were terrified of their dice leading to loads of entertaining dithering and panic. And then I terrified them with the 'Abhorrent Beetle Swarm' and the 'Obliviate Spawn' final boss.
One of the players really didn't appreciate being punctured in the chest with its 'Corruption Spire' and being pumped full of evil. #RPG #ttrpg #hitpointpress #shift #horror
Whoever came up with the idea of #ShiftRPG resolution mechanic is a freaking genius.
1 as crit and max number being botch, combined with exhausting the die (increasing it's size) is so elegant it makes me dizzy.
The @hitpointpress #SHIFTRPG kickstarter is live! Go pledge some cash to help them make it happen. I've been playing the beta rules for a couple of years now and it's fab :)
Fleshed out the locations on my Shift World Spark yesterday. Some major NPCs and plot hooks now. Christ, it's already 6k words. I can't help going to town :/
Next is working out to play the game, in the game using Shift rules
The Maelstrom setting is from the 2023 #shiftrpg quickstart guide and has four character types
- The Beacon, the keepers of the light that keep the darkness and the deep at bay
- The Siren, charismatic talkers and influencers
- The Gale, who can wield the power of storms
- The Rudder, eerie navigators with uncanny senses of direction and abilities to find things
I'm playing Isidore Barbeau, a Rudder based out of the setting's starting town of Tide's Bane.
I mentioned here - https://dice.camp/@edchivers/114332505895435755 - how I had somehow managed to roleplay three times in a weekend, which I think might be a new record. I've been playing in @delanthear's #shiftrpg game, set in the Maelstrom setting where the sun has gone from the sky and the sea is rising up to claim the land. It's a spooky late 19th/early 20th century vibe with populations hanging on to scraps of land while terrors from the deep assail them on every side.

I have some things to talk about regarding my cleric Song in Icewind Dale, and my "Rudder" Isidore Barbeau in the Shift Maelstrom setting, once I get my thoughts in order. Playing #shiftrpg today. It's been a real tale of highs and lows today with some spectacular successes and hilarious cock-ups. We've accidentally split the party three ways (sorry @delanthear!)
We're investigating things with a pet crow, a monkey, MIND POWERS and occasional lightning bolts. It's going as well as you might expect ;)
