I am running on coffee fumes this morning, I was unable to set aside the #BritishElection results on the excellent #LBC webcast, run by #ShelaghFogarty and #AndrewMarr - two Celtic fringe journos right? - and watching the implications and results. Well done #Labour, of course, and may they prosper. There's an obvious and intentional intellectual link between #TonyBlair and #KeirStarmer, and that ought to mean good things for #NorthernIreland, just to pick one important example of policy that has been outrageously neglected by the exasperating parade of Tory governments.

Who else noticed the correlation of #Reform with #MK? #FPTP distorts the #British results, leaving #NigelFarage with very few seats. But there's the same underlying groundswell of support, resulting in a sort of stymied electoral resentment led by a populist with nothing to lose.

Also, I just had the strangest sense of deja vu, listening to #Labour MPs commenting on Reform. It's like a problem they haven't thought about. It's all just 'we beat the #Tories and that's what the people want'. The Tories seem to have grasped the problem, but they're currently proposing solutions involving electoral calculus, specifically, should they try to wean voters off Reform, or themselves try to replace or absorb Reform? It felt just like the same failure of imagination here in SA.

WHAT DO THE MK (or REFORM) VOTERS WANT?

It's like the early part of Jaws. The shark's already there, but nobody's taking it seriously.
