#SFFChat A4: As I never written a scene about a bear, I'd like to share something about an animal species / semi-protagonist I invented. It's fun: enjoy! #BookSky

#SFFChat A3: Boromir, Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. He always stood by his belief, sacrificed himself to save the Hobbits and was the true leader of the Fellowship. Always shed a tear, when I see/read the arrows strucking him. Sean Bean acted him so great in the movies! #BookSky

#SFFChat A2: I try not to let my own opinion about that, defy the character from being interesting. In the end, I learned something from an opposite to me protagonist I wrote. Now I see it through her eyes. Open yourself to those angles and don't write yourself into [all] protagonists! #BookSky

"There have been droppings at the peripheries of the forest, and we think they may be a bear’s. They are as hungry as we are, after this lean year. I will not risk facing one with Ember in my arms." #SFFChat

Unless they're undergoing some sort of dramatic shift in those attitudes, of course. #SFFChat
If a character has very different political and social views from me, it's actually to ensure that it's a subtle element of the narrative. Because underlying attitudes are usually smoothed down in a person's character - part of the personality furniture, if you catch my drift. #SFFChat

In the novel I'm editing right now there's a dual narrative. One is first person and the other is close third person, so yes, it very much alters the mood. It's even more pronounced because the characters are not only vastly different people but separated by thousands of years. #SFFChat

#SFFChat Hi, I'm Anna. I generally write horror, but actually I am editing a sci fi novel right now (although I'm clearly easily distracted). Not sure what I'd do as a polar bear in this day and age. They're in pretty dire straits. 150 years ago I guess I'd go and chew on a colonizer or two.

Starting Your Science Fiction Story with Setting

In science fiction, setting typically is more vital to the story than in other genres. By definition, the location in a science fiction story must be a place in which some scientific discovery or c…

Ursula K.LeGuin does romance and attraction incredibly well. With tenderness, not sentimentality. #SFFChat
