Today, the disappointing news arrived that manga and danmei publisher Seven Seas Entertainment has been acquired by Media Do, a large ebook company that intends to use their own AI translation tool to release far more manga. Danmeinews.com has a good article about what this means:

I'm very much against generative AI, especially in the arts. I'm not going to list all the issues with it and how damaging it is, but with manga being expensive as it is, I will not be forking over that money for an AI translation. I don't want to support AI slop. I want my manga drawn, written, edited, typeset, and translated by humans. That goes for every type of media.
So I'll be boycotting Seven Seas Entertainment and their titles going forward. It's a shame for the authors involved (and the employees of Seven Seas who apparently had no idea until the public announcement), but alas, I draw a line here. So as much as I've been enjoying Kageki Shojo!!, it will remain uncompleted.
Sadly, I fear other publishers will follow suit. 🥲 So I suppose Kageki Shojo!! won't be the first ongoing series becoming a casualty.
Not gonna lie, I'm very bummed about this. Not to be dramatic, but I hate how AI infects everything and enshittifies it. Can't imagine the Danmei community is very happy about this either.
