A rather simple stirred affair found in Smuggler's Cove, page 201. Not many drinks in that book, aside from historical drinks, have such an unadorned build. Nevertheless it's a great boozy sip with plenty of complexity from the port and aged rum.

1½ oz Angostura bitters

I love a cocktail with bitters as the base! This is probably the most well-known and might be the original. The heavy slug of orgeat offsets the insane amount of bitters, bringing a very flavorful and bold yet balanced sip.

Originally from Trader Vic, this version tweaks proportions to make it a bit bolder. I actually ratcheted the tequila back down a bit, because I used an overproof. PS: no one will complain if you add a few drops of saline in there.

When IG coachvinococktails posted this, I knew I had to shake it up pronto. I made some cold brew with my Nomad subscription last week, and had a little left when the weekend came. Why not turn it into a brunch cocktail? I had to sub Meletti with Nonino since I had it on hand, bringing both citrus and somehow an amaretto note to the mix. Instead of dusting with salt, I added saline into the drink. An easy one to gulp down!

¾ oz Ancho Reyes chili liqueur
1½ oz rye whiskey

Glassware: Chilled coupe
Method: Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe and serve without garnish.

This one was a delight to drink! Strong rye notes give way to balanced bitter with a lingering heat from the generous pour of chili liqueur. And how about that action shot?? I was pretty thrilled with how it turned out.

½ oz pistachio cream liqueur
½ oz chocolate cream liqueur
1½ oz cognac

Garnish: chocolate powder
Method: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake. Double strain into a small glass and dust with chocolate powder as garnish.

A rich and creamy dessert cocktail, this one is hard not to gulp down! For garnish I did nutmeg instead of chocolate powder for that extra somethin. Spec is on Difford's Guide, created by Gabriele Carnaghi.
