What role does race play in your work?

Since discovering my main character was a Black woman, my research has taken me to reading #BernardineEvaristo, #ReniEddoLodge and #CandiceCartyWilliams, learning the term #misogynoir and set me on a search for a Black British female #sensitivityreader (paid, of course).

@orionkidder @swanchime Yeah, I once wrote a trans side character and I just don't feel very good with that depiction, even though I had a #SensitivityReader. When I worked with that person on a story we wrote together, this worked way better

For the 1st time ever, a sensitivity reader is going over one of my soon-to-be published novels.

I AM SO NERVOUS

I believe I have treated the sensitive subject matter with respect and grace and depth of thought--and I did do research--but obviously I'm biased.

Also, in all my years of writing and publishing, this is the first time I've ever let a complete stranger read one of my unpublished novels.

SO. NERVOUS.

BTW, still looking for a Sami person willing to do a sensitivity/beta read of my book. Happy to pay of course, but struggling to find someone interested/willing.

If anyone can help or put me in touch with someone who can, please do!
