The study combines magnetometry, LiDAR and multispectral drone imagery to identify potential furnaces, slag deposits and other spatial patterns linked to Iron Age metalworking at Campo de Herrerías, La Mina and Chotiles. This work forms part of an ongoing collaboration between the Universitat de València and NTNU (Norway) within the #sensingiberianscapes project (CIDEXG/2022/55).

🧭 This research applies techniques such as LiDAR, magnetometry, and GPR to study Iron Age landscapes in the Valencian region in a non-invasive way.

⛏️🔥 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Salvador Rovira Llorens, a renowned specialist in archaeometallurgy.

He guided us through the analysis of iron slag — smelting and forging residues — discussing their microstructure, composition, and formation processes. A rewarding exchange that bridged ancient metallurgical processes and the archaeological understanding of sites and landscapes 🔍.
