I'm going to have another go at the 1879 Jones patent waist overalls, but this time in brown duck rather than denim, with a linen patch and deadstock steel sew-on buttons instead of the leather patch and riveted buttons.
Although I'm not aware of any existing brown duck versions, I think it is quite possible that Jones might have made these in duck as well as denim.
This will be an update of my first attempt, with some improvements such as a slightly wider front panel, smaller pockets and flaps, and some simplifications of the construction, mainly on the inside.

Unfortunately the needle on my overlock machine broke with only 10 cm to go on the inseam. As this was my last needle, completion of these duck pants will have to wait until I get new needles tomorrow.

Ready to start sewing a new pair, this time using some beautiful brown duck from Citron Jeans with a very distinctive red line in the selvedge.
These will also be early 1910s-type waist overalls, from the short period after the introduction of overlocking but before the use of chainstitch machines, so they will feature single-needle flat-felled seams and overlocking on most of the raw edges.
