I am an advocate of ethical self-disclosure in the therapeutic space. The idea that practitioners can be neutral in a place where we are encouraging others to vulnerable is privileged, arrogant, and oppressive. We need to recognise and understand our own reactions, responses, and unconscious communication. Doing so allows us to be authentic and build a safer and more effective therapeutic relationship.
