ππ¨π§ πππ«π ππ«Power just went out in a big chunk of #Sebastopol. It's the orange color on the outage map, meaning somewhere between 500 and 5,000 houses are affected. So either pretty big or pretty DAMN big, though not like San Francisco earlier today. I guess I should count myself lucky that it happened about three minutes after the episode of "The Expanse" we were watching finished; TV isn't on battery backups but router is.
If anyone in #Sebastopol or elsewhere in #SonomaCounty is interested in trying their hand at woodturning, my wife, Kalia Kliban, will be teaching some beginning bowl turning classes at the Chimera makerspace in downtown Sebastopol. She;s a terrific turner and an excellent teacher (though I may be a bit biased). Here's the Eventbrite link:

If anyone in #Sebastopol or west #SonomaCounty is interested, my wife, Kalia Kliban, is currently doing a live woodturning demonstration at the Sebastopol Gallery, 150 N. Main Street. She has a lathe set up in the front window, and she's making bowls (which is what she mostly does) as well as tops, hair sticks, cocktail muddlers, and other less exalted items. Head on over if you like watching wood shavings fly through the air. She'll be doing this all week, from 10 to 5 each day.

Here's one from my hometown, Sebastopol, California. This was relatively small, as these things go; the much bigger one was about 10 miles away in Santa Rosa. But it was quite the crowd for our little town. We had a couple of big pickup trucks turn the corner way too fast, which I suspect was supposed to be intimidating, but otherwise it was a perfectly happy and peaceful event. Some cops popped in to help when someone hurt herself falling off the curb, but they were otherwise invisible. The crowd was universally lily-white, despite the fact that this is an agricultural area and we have a good-sized Hispanic population, but you know, even though this is Jared Huffman's district and all -- maybe even BECAUSE it's Jared Huffman's district -- I probably wouldn't have wanted to show my face if it looked Hispanic either.
(I briefly considered making a sign that said "Hurray for our side" as a tribute to my musical roots, but I decided this wasn't the place for it.)
