It won't be an easy breezy journey, but I trust her judgment in choosing the best possible talent for her transition team. Go Katie!

Katie Wilson’s Transition Team Features Mix of Advocates and Insiders » The Urbanist

# Seattle Mayor-Elect Katie Wilson announced her transition leadership team earlier this week, which features a mix of advocates and insiders. Wilson has reiterated a bold progressive agenda, but a pragmatic approach to achieve it.

Wilson Defeats Harrell

"Many reasons exist for the progressive shift, from stronger candidates and messaging to Trump backlash to rising economic anxieties to voter frustration from centrists leading differently than they promised during their previous campaigns. Plenty of time remains to conduct postmortems on moribund centrist campaigns and voter motivation."

For now, I will celebrate these results.

This is the news I've been anxiously and nervously waiting for since Election Day. To say I'm thrilled is an understatement. We've got a lot to accomplish in the next four years, and I trust Katie Wilson will deliver. Congrats!

Oh, and Bruce, thanks for your service. Have a good day.

Beleaguered Bainbridge Island Affordable Housing Project Hits Another Snag

"In an interview conducted in August, well before the appeal was filed, Janow told The Urbanist that she thought a project like 625 Winslow was too big for a city of Bainbridge Island’s size, and that the city should be focused on smaller-scale affordable housing projects."

Haven't we heard all that before? Anti-housing NIMBY neighbours making it sound like a valid concern, trying (in vain) to their ulterior motive of keeping their rich and white neighbourhoods intact. Makes my blood boil.

Beleaguered Bainbridge Island Affordable Housing Project Hits Another Snag » The Urbanist

# A SEPA appeal filed by a former council candidate means LIHI's long-planned 92-unit housing project won't be as competitive for state grants, but the nonprofit developer is optimistic that things can be quickly resolved and get moving again.

I've never been a fan of Harrell, but after reading this, there's no way in hell I can conscientiously support him.

Lake Washington Boulevard Safety Upgrades Fully Designed Before Mayor Pulled Plug » The Urbanist

# A major intersection redesign near Seward Park was ready to go to construction with a Mayor's Office review the only impediment, records show. The exchanges reveal what was happening behind the scenes as the public was kept in the dark about the future of upgrades on the high-profile corridor.

Op-Ed: Closing Seattle Schools Is Still a Bad Idea

"Rankin’s memo and the sweeping austerity that it floats ought to become a central topic of discussion and debate during the hiring of a new superintendent, as well as in the fall school board election campaigns. Candidates should be asked whether they would support or oppose a new school closure effort or 'strategic abandonment' of district programs and services."

Op-Ed: Closing Seattle Schools Is Still a Bad Idea » The Urbanist

# Last week school board director Liza Rankin wrote a memo to her colleagues suggesting a major new round of austerity for the Seattle Public Schools that could revive a plan to close numerous schools. Robert Cruickshank argues that's the wrong approach.

“Savage wants the police to arrest more people using drugs and experiencing public mental illness and build long-term residential treatment facilities to house them. She opposes the “housing first” approach to permanent supportive housing, which moves people off the street without insisting they address their addiction first.” -Josh Cohen, Cascade PBS, 26 August 2025

Dear Rachel Savage,

You’re proposing the eugenicists’ approach to public health. Please get fucked as unkindly as possible.

Sincerely,
Everyone not a fucking Nazi
