New thing: Lantern. A self-hosted, ad-free metasearch engine. Type a query, get links -- no AI overview, no synthesis, no tracking. Built it on infrastructure I already run.

@generalespecifico Domanda veramente interessante... In effetti, il tasso di suicidi in carcere è alto. Ho fatto una ricerca su searxng.devol.it e ho trovato questo articolo dell'#UniPd

Metà delle morti in carcere dal 2002 al 2024 sono suicidi.😥
@latenightlinux Great show! I do agree it is getting increasingly harder to find shit on the internet, but I don't think so much of it is to do with SEO. Much of it is still the old problem of not knowing what some idiot may have called the thing yer tryin to find, just now with more idiots. I too use that image search method quite often, especially when looking up part numbers.
I'm also quite surprised none of you nerds run yer own (or just use) #SearXNG. It's requires quite little hassle to install, or there are loads of public instances you can use as well.
Aproveché de habilitar Anna's Archive para buscar libros directamente con el bang !aa
Me gustó ahora incluso más #SearXNG 🤩
A German court has ruled that Google is legally liable for false statements generated by its AI search overviews.
As commercial search engines push more AI content, trust in their results is shifting. If you're tired of the clutter and just want clean, private search results, self-hostable open-source engines like SearXNG give you total control over where your results come from.

Hey users,
This #searxng instance account is quite silent. Not because it is abandonned but because I only speak when it fails for me and I change things. I only received a couple of complains in the last two years. Luckily those could be addressed too.
As I only have overall technical stats on this instance, I can’t really tell how much it is used, or not :)
You are about 70 people following this account. And I expect you to be a user of the SearXNG instance. But I may be wrong and maybe you just tried it and forgot it because $REASONS.
So before I decide to turn it back to private mode because nobody uses it besides me (say hi to my imposter syndrome ;-), I’d like to know if you actually use it. And if not, I really would like to know why. Either because the software is not good or because the actual service sucks or any other reason. Honestly, do not fear telling me the truth, I can handle it, no offense. I really just want to know if it’s worth maintaining this instance.
Bisous !
PS: you can reply in PM only if it feels safer to you.
EDIT: Ok friends, there were enough replies to convince me this little project is worthwhile. Let’s continue providing it. 😘
I am self hosting and using SearXNG on all my devices for over a month and it’s such an amazing experience. My searches are finally accurate and private.
