Instant commerce reshaping #Thai #retail
Natee S brand lead #CocaCola 🇹🇭, said te traditional fight for "share of shelf" has shifted to "share of attention" on phone screens.. brands need to invest in 3 areas. 1st is #visibility by dominating screens.. also invest in #searchability by optimising te right people to find prods.. 🚨 If AI #discovery is the sports car, then #OpenAbstracts are the fuel.

Loss of abstracts from major publishers (Elsevier, SpringerNature…) means:
❌ weaker #AIDiscovery
❌ reduced #searchability
❌ setbacks for #OpenScience & #bibliometrics

At stake: not just tools, but researchers’ ability to scope, filter & save time.

👉 We need advocacy for open #metadata
👉 Researcher awareness of limits & #biases
👉 Higher #OpenAccess rates

The Petrol Tank for AI Discovery Might be Running Dry as Publishers close access to scholarly content such as abstracts due to AI incentives

Elicit.com, Consensus, and Undermind.ai are among the new leading comprehensive cross-disciplinary “AI-powered academic search engines” today.

@lps @FediTips Thank you for a starting point!

One more question: Any idea where to look for mastodon #iOS app advanced search operators? Search results have not only not been few but also not relevant.
Especially #grateful to the fellow fediverse folk who #tag posts and #caption images - every small improvement in #accessibility & #usability creates fertile ground for normalizing #searchability !

@njsg @feditips there are those communities under a.gup.pe.

  • As for Hashtags, they are a "necessary evil" due to the decentralized nature of the Fediverse.

One can however seperate them below and most clients will then put them in a seperate section.

Dear @realcaseyrollins @evanprodromou @silverpill @eugen , if i don't here from u, this will be the last post on this subject i'll tag u in, thanks.

@k
> Why would an organic farmer open an account here where no one will ever see them? (.....) The only big brands will be from Threads

That's defeatist mentality.

The aim in my OP is for a  fediverse that is able to replace big tech media completely. if we want to get rid of those centers of mass-intoxication, pillage and destruction (includes Threats, ex-twit, blue'sigh', minds[.]com) we need to imagine what non-techies will want from it. They will very likely want to be able to microblog as their small business.

Look closely and many techies on  fediverse blend personal #microblogging with their business, and this is great, but many people have good reasons for not wanting to tie themselves to a physical store location, ie. think #privacy for example.

that's why i dont believe its bad for, say, an 'organic corner store' to have an account on fedi.... people often know who is behind an account even if they dont publicly adverise it in the feed. So i think it's troubling when so many instances have signup pages that are so hostile to all businesses. It sends a signal that fedi is a hostile place, when really we just hate ads. @sun produced a little list of business types in his reply and i think this might be key to helping people control their feeds....

....while the default might be: Hide publicly-traded corporations and their subsidiaries, some ppl might opt to hide ALL business accounts, giving them an experience similar to today.

I just dont believe that all fedi instances with hostile terms & conditions towards companies REALLY want to deny others their yums. If someone LOVES nintendo (a publicly traded co), they'd find it if they search it.... it just wont appear in the feed by default. Fedizens that object to something, say, nintendo are doing, will benefit from nintnedo being on fedi because they can similarly, find nintendo and ask them to stop persecuting some engineer or whatever. Win AND win.

As fedizens we are failing when we attack small businesses, which are a backbone of society. When fedizens conflate small businesses with multinational conglomerates on the stock market (ie. publicly traded companies) running aggressive ad campaigns, it ensures that fediverse remains less relevant to societies, and therefore less relevant in general.

Having said all this I dont believe this is the biggest issue affecting  fediverse. The biggest issue is content delivery becoming centralized (cloudflare, amazon, fastly, bunnyCDN). The dependence on big tech to provide the media needs to be solved immediately.... i talk about this in the tag (#)DCN. I think a lack of a fedi "Marketplace" and the hostility towards small business does need to be addressed at some point AFTER (#)DCN. Addressing it could be as simple as providing the drop down menu that again @sun provided, and then giving folk the ability to filter their feed accordingly. A subsequent #Marketplace function, which is why many people are unable to fully leave falsebook, will likely grow out of hashtags and/or efforts like "grup.pe". I doubt we need to make anything particularly new for a Marketplace-style experience aside from improving #hashtag #searchability.

draft - idea - an option in mastodon settings to

"Make my mastodon posts searchable across the fediverse without hashtags"

This could appease both sets of people

Those who want to continue using mastodon only with their posts searchable via hashtags

And

Those who want their posts to potentially reach a broader audience who may search without hashtags

Also, enables searching with quotes and pairs or sets of words and sentences that are disconnected with the space button, something that is impossible with hashtags

Many communities are moving to platforms like #Telegram or #Discord, but these platforms are not #searchable, limiting #AI development. Big Tech should support open protocols like #ActivityPub to promote #inclusivity and #data-driven AI development while maintaining #searchability and #accessibility of public communication.
