@dbattistella #nextcloud is not (only) a file sync & sharing server similar to Dropbox or GoogleDrive. It is a powerful cloud solution, much more than Dropbox etc.
If you are looking just for a file sync solution, solutions like #opencloud or #seafile might be more suitable with a much smaller footprint.
(Using self hosted Owncloud/Nextcloud for more than 10 years ...)

I was trying to stand up Seafile with S3 storage using Backblaze -- just to test it out before considering using it regularly. It requires three buckets, but only supports providing a single application key via env var -- and Backblaze doesn't seem to support multi-bucket keys. Trying to use seafile.conf to specify separate keys just causes a crash at startup.

Think I'll give up for the night and come back later in the week...

#selfhosted #seafile #backblaze

Huh. Syncing files should not be a complicated thing, yet the existing projects for this all seem to be weird in some way:

* I couldn't figure out how to set up authentication for Syncthing, everything was world-writable
* Seafile looks near perfect... except the setup is way overcomplicated even though they use Docker
* Copyparty has no bidirectional sync

Suggestions welcome!

Worked on data & backups today — Seafile on my Raspberry Pi still a bit buggy but usable. Took a break at a café, listened to a podcast ☕, then stopped by Shoprite before heading back to the hostel.

From Laundry to Linux: Two Productive Days in Lusaka

Yesterday (April 30) and today (May 1), I spent some time doing laundry while also setting up my Raspberry Pi with Umbrel OS. I installed the software I need and started backing up my data today, deciding to go with Seafile for it.

I worked on all of this at the hostel, then took a walk to the university and continued in the library. Later, I went to a burger place and enjoyed a Friday deal.

Here are some photos from these two days.

@kuketzblog

I reinstalled my Seafile instance for the 999th time, and this time I have added a USB drive logo for it. It seems familiar to me. In the past, I loved using physical USB drives. Now, this will be a familiar, relatable, and nostalgic way to keep my files.

Hey #Linux folks, I'm having trouble deciding between #OpenCloud and #Seafile for our #HomeServer. It's a pretty beefy system so the overhead of each shouldn't be too much of a determining factor. I have 2 10tb hard drives that are raid1 and I have docker installed. Oh, and I installed Ubuntu Server because I'm comfortable with Ubuntu already.

My main goal is to make it easy to share and distribute files and store backups and media. I plan on adding #JellyFin at a later date for streaming.

One of the differences I noticed is that each one uses a different dbms. Not a big deal I don't think.

Thanks for any input.
