SeaGL 2025: A Community-Driven Linux Weekend

SeaGL 2025 through LPI Board Member Ted Matsumura’s eyes: Linux talks, open source community energy, and hallway chats in Seattle.

Linux Professional Institute (LPI)

We had a great time visiting our friends at the Seattle GNU/Linux Conference earlier this month. Between answering questions about dma's upcoming opening, visiting other booths, and taking the trivia challenge, you couldn't ask for a more fun and nerdy way to spend your Saturday.

Enjoying the white darjeeling tea I got from #TeaGL tea-swap this year at #SeaGL2025.

Me, with my Porygon plushie at this year's SeaGL: "My Porygon loves Free Software; they find it delicious!"

next year's @SeaGL streaming tech stack: k8s, running on a NixOS base system, with a MongoDB-backed Haskell blockchain implementation (bc #webscale) running in the cluster on the laptop.

...the blockchain is the message bus by which the GPT controls the streaming laptop. oh and also Prometheus.

Did anyone else see an 8 foot tall Seagull in heels closing out #SeaGL2025 or am I just high on FOSS? Can’t wait for #SeaGL2026! #SeaGL #linux #gnu #seattle

And that is a wrap for the conference talks. But wait, we still have our last social event at Big Time Brewery starting after 7pm!!!
