For this week's #MusicWomenWednesday, something fairly brutal and excellent- Glasgow's UNMAKING and their debut EP 'Absolute Immiseration'. This is like, blackened sludge -- some VERY intense shit. Heavy as hell. Vocalist Kay Logan's voice is roaring and screeching.. I keep coming back to this one.

The prompt is #Quiet
The Beta Band, โQuietโ from โHot Shots II,โ 2001
#TheBetaBand are from Scotland, purveying kind of clattery #psychedelic music with a #LoFi aesthetic, but when at its best, with some groove - which I think this track demonstrates nicely.
They disbanded in 2004 but I see now that theyโve just reunited for a tour, so hurry out and get those tickets, kids!
This week's #MusicWomenWednesday is one I can't stop listening to these last few days. I usually like to wait until a record is out and I've heard all of it, but these three preview tracks are so damn good, I wanted to share.
Glasgow's CLOTH is twins Rachael & Paul Swinton and their songs are incredibly great. Minimal, melodies galore. A new find for me this year (they have another cool LP from 2023).
LP 'Pink Silence' is out fully in less than a month, on April 25.

Looks like the same guitar Edwyn Collins is holding on the cover of Orange Juice's debut single Falling & Laughing
Strawberry Switchblade were cover stars of No 1 magazine 40 years ago today, 23 March 1985. The interview touched on Jill's agoraphobia & the culture shock of moving to London from Glasgow, with photos of them around St Paul's Cathedral.

Continuing a week of posts celebrating the 40th anniversary of Strawberry Switchblade's Let Her Go, here's Jill Bryson's acoustic home demo.
Like most Strawberry Switchblade songs, Let Her Go was written on guitar. Jill wrote the music and a basic vocal meody, Rose refined the melody & added lyrics.
