Sad thing is, it is any number of MSPs that could have described a trans person as sub-human. 🤬

"I make a plea to MSPs to agree something that we can all move forward with. Whether or not members vote for the bill, I hope that we can unite and agree to tackle and challenge transphobia, wherever and whenever it occurs. It can occur anywhere, even in this parliamentary building. I am sad to say that I am aware of a trans woman who was in this estate who was referred to as “it” by an MSP to another colleague. That has nothing to do with protecting women and girls, but has everything to do with transphobia. Therefore, let us agree that the othering of a minority in our society is totally wrong. If we hear such prejudice here in this Parliament or anywhere else, we should call it out for what it is, because we are better than that."

Or maybe if I had heard it at the time it came out. Still, I made it in the end. And since transphobes like weaponising detransition horror stories, I can absolutely affirm that transitioning was hard at the back end of the '90s, but detransitioning was horrific. Transitioning should never be about having to prove your mental toughness. Let's not go back to those days. #grr #scotpol #scotparl (2/2)

The Scottish Parliament have responded to the UN Special Rapporteur's letter regarding Gender Recognition Act Reform with this very robust and thorough document which covers in detail what the function of the GRA is, what gender recognition certificates do and don't effect, and why it's important to bring Scotland's process in line with international standards.
