Oh, we're not calling it "Protest" any more but "Anti Migrant unrest"....which kinda makes it sound like it's the Migrant's fault, and not that of the White People harassing them?

In case anyone's wondering what's going on at Holyrood lately: the unionist parties wanted to keep the Murrell outrage cycle going, so tabled a motion demanding a full inquiry into SNP finances. (Bear in mind that a three year long criminal investigation into exactly that has just concluded.)

The @ScottishGreens then tabled an amendment that the enquiry covers the finances of ALL political parties, which passed, and the unionists are FUMING.

I wonder why?

I wrote a wee response to John Swinney's piece in Saturday's @TheNational . Full disclosure, I've offered this to both The National and to @BellaCaledonia, and neither of them wanted to publish it.

But I still think it needs saying, so here it is.

Dear John

'You say that Peter Murrell is a criminal, and that the party is his victim. Yes, of course, indeed you're right; but the wider Yes movement is also his victim. He stole two thirds of the value of the independence war chest from the SNP, but the SNP had first appropriated that, along with the 'Yes Scotland' branding, the website, and Yes Scotland's data assets, from the wider movement.

The Fool on the Hill

@ScottishGreens have called for an independent enquiry into ALL Scottish parties' finances.

That's a genuinely sensible idea.

Now, will other parties back it? After all, what do they have to hide?

Is the Scottish Government blocking a Land Tax because they can’t control it? — Common Weal

Common Weal was featured in a news article in The National on Sunday, rebutting a claim made by former Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison’s claim that Westminster blocks Scotland from creating a Scottish Land Tax. In an in depth interview with the Scottish Left Review ,

"YouGov’s findings should be a call to arms for anyone in Scottish Labour serious about winning an election again. Creating a new centre-left party for the Scottish Parliament elections should be a pre-requisite."

My article in this week's Common Weal Magazine.

One of the most politically contentious aspects of the UK's transition to renewable energy is the policy of "constraint payments" - paying wind and solar owners to turn off their generators when supply exceeds demand.

Taking inspiration from a policy in Sweden...I might have a better idea.

How to solve Renewable Constraint Payments — Common Weal

Taking inspiration from a policy in Sweden, it is possible that the UK could move away from the need to pay energy companies to turn off wind turbines when there’s too much wind.
