After a 15-year hiatus from doing deadlifts, I replaced my routine squats with 5 sets of DLs (bored w/ squats). Super light from when I competed, but could barely walk home.
Felt good. I expect to be really sore tomorrow. 🏋🏽#scientistswholift #weightlifting
Returned to gym after a week’s vacation & the resulting delayed onset muscle soreness reminded me that daily hikes aren’t the same as moving heavy weights. But a HIIT session on the treadmill quickly chased the DOMS away. Less is known about whole body response to an acute RT bout than local muscle/myofiber response. Also, the age and sex differences in DOMS, esp the former. #scientistswholift #weightlifting #resistancetraining #exercisephysiology
Back to weights after 2 weeks off (vacation & severe allergies). Reduced volume & intensity, but whopping delayed muscle soreness (DOMS) for 2 days post-wo. Sometimes wish I could take my own muscle biopsies to examine muscle fiber changes. #scientistswholift #weightlifting
Read through 6 research papers over holiday to plan a HIIT for myself (69 yo F). Hated cardio, but time to incorporate it with my weight training to ⬇️ BP & improve lipid profile. Tried the bike; hate it. Back to treadmill. Tried a 30s max, 90s low x 3 workout. Liked it so far. Work up to x 5 w/o within a week.
Any other experiences? #hiit #scientistswholift
Funny how the gym is empty after holidays. I love it. I get all the weights to myself. 🏋️‍♀️#weightlifting #scientistswholift
