🎭 Behold, the LMArena: the #AI world's favorite fake tan! 🤦‍♂️ Researchers worship this glorified popularity contest, mistaking it for the Holy Grail of AI benchmarks. Meanwhile, it offers all the scientific rigor of a supermarket tabloid. 🥴

LMArena is a cancer on AI

Would you trust a medical system whose only metric was “which doctor wins the Internet?” No, you'd call that malpractice. Yet that's LMArena.

🗽 Ah yes, the claustrophobia index, because nothing screams "scientific rigor" like measuring the city's "squeeze" factor. 🤏 Apparently, determining how "tight" NYC feels is the newest frontier in urban warfare, because why solve actual problems when you can just invent new ones? 🤡

Estimating the Perceived 'Claustrophobia' of New York City's Streets | Matt Franchi

New York City is a large place; almost 469 square miles of pretty dense civilization. Within the city, there are thousands of miles of sidewalks. As you walk through different neighborhoods, you may experience a variety of different atmospheres. In Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, it's quaint and quiet. In SoHo these days, there are so many pedestrians that they spill off the narrow sidewalks. While a neighborhood's atmosphere is, of course, a function of time, it is possible to get an average consensus of how 'crowded' each neighborhood feels by averaging over time. When we say 'crowded', we mean not just with people; we also mean with static objects, or street furniture, or, to get even more colloquial, 'clutter'. When we mix 'crowdedness' within the narrow environment of NYC's sidewalks, we endeavor to call this feeling 'claustrophobia', a direct mapping to the definition in psychology.

As a journalist, professor, and researcher, I have a firm commitment to truth, transparency, and ethics. Our duty and responsibility as researchers and journalism educators is even greater than that of the rest of the scientific community in combating malpractice and corruption.

🎉 Ah, the art of "trip reporting" #estrogen like it's a psychedelic odyssey—because clearly hormones are the new LSD! 🙄 And kudos to the brave soul crediting their #neuroendocrinology "literature review" to someone named after a bird, because that totally screams 'scientific rigor.' 🦜✨

✨ Ah yes, the shocking #exposé on how invisible light is wreaking havoc on our health—because who needs tangible problems when you can blame ethereal beams? 🤔 Plus, nothing says scientific rigor like pondering light bulbs in a fancy chateau while sipping #Bordeaux. 🍷🔦

The Invisible Light That’s Harming Our Health — And How We Can Light Things Better

I recently spent a few weeks running a conference for a community of researchers and writers in a historic chateau in the French countryside. During this time, I also examined the history of the…

A neglect of #ScientificRigor came back to bite the president of
Stanford University this week. Everyone makes errors, but this episode drives home the importance of #TimelyCorrections.

It's a pretty serious problem that #assumptions on the same level as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherical_cow are rampant in #medicine.

There is a dreadful lack of #ScientificRigor from many whom are supposed to be PhDs.
