πŸ€–πŸ₯Έ Apparently, the 21st century's most groundbreaking #AI #innovation is just a resumΓ© of Schmidhuber's fan club meetings. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ“ Forget credit cards, the guy's been swiping credit for neural networks before #Y2K was even a thing! πŸ•°οΈπŸ§

I repost this here as I haven't seen it discussed in the Fediverse yet:

@HackWan

#Schmidhuber hat eine andere Sicht und fΓΌr mich immer wieder horizonterweiternde Sichten.

This guy clearly has no idea what the phrase "human intelligence" means. For instance, it's a long long way from the advanced curve fitting capability of today's AI. If there is a ever a computational equivalent of human intelligence, we won't call it Artificial Intelligence. We will just call it intelligence.

I am no historian, but I do have a fascination for certain histories of science. I understand and enjoy the #schmidhuber (verb) meme, but I am worried that the actual problems are being dismissed too easily. AI and DL were developed by small, fractured communities, in the Before Academic Twitter Era. Many ideas were discovered and redescovered, many were forgotten (and may be useful).
Missing credit attribution and historical context can and should be fixed, rather laughed about.
