The container ship Molly Schulte for #SchiffSamstag this week. Our recent holiday hit a few countries not visited often enough by cruise ships to warrant dedicated cruise terminals so industrial ports sufficed. This was Acajutla in El Salvador.

🇫🇷 Un bateau-phare, le "Hochbahn" qui passe sur un viaduc et les coulisses de la ville au bord de l'Elbe. C'est un peu mon univers en une seule photo. 🙂

Les bateau-phares ou bateau-feux étaient utilisés pour sécuriser des endroits dangereux mais où il était difficile voire impossible de construire un phare en dur. Les conditions de vie à bord étaient souvent difficiles. Celui-ci est utilisé comme bar-restaurant.

Dans la littérature, je connais deux romans dont le lieu de l'action est un bateau-feu : "Das Feuerschiff" de Siedfried Lenz (que j'ai du lire pour le cours d'allemand il y a fort longtemps) et "Terreur en Mer du Nord" de Michel Dunno dans la collection "Marabout Jeunesse".

🇬🇧 A lightship, the "Hochbahn" which passes over a viaduct and behind the scenes of the city on the Elbe's banks. A good idea of my universe. 🙂

Lightships were used to secure dangerous places where it was very difficult or impossible to build a lighthouse. The one here, is used as restaurant and bar.

I know two novels where the action is located on a Lightship : "Das Feuerschiff" by Siegfried Lenz (I had to read it for German lessons in school, a long time ago) and "Terreur en Mer du Nord" by Michel Dunno in the collection "Marabout Jeunesse".

Die Gustav Zeuner ist der einzige originalgetreu restaurierte Kettenschleppdampfer Deutschlands – liegt im Magdeburger Wissenschaftshafen.

1894 in Dresden - Übigau gebaut, zog sie sich ab 1895 ganze 843 km auf der Elbe an einer schweren Kette entlang und transportierte gewaltige Lasten. Bis 1931 im Einsatz, danach noch Jahrzehnte Umkleidekabine, Bootsschuppen und Restaurant am Fermersleber Hafen, bevor sie fast verfiel.

For #SchiffSamstag this is the super yacht AV just off the coast of Cabo San Lucas last month. Now owned by American billionaire Dennis Washington it was formerly named Palladium and was owned by the Russian oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov who, despite some opposition to Putin, never found himself close enough to a window to fall out of it.
