I use both the site and #sengi at the moment, and I add lists to arrange people in from the get go. This makes it easier to follow certain topics. To add people to a list you'll need to follow them first. Then you can assign them. Easy. You can also type a remark about someone on their profile. They won't see it, but it's a good way to remember certain things about people. Especially handy for #scatterbrains like me.
