I drew Entre Sombras three years ago. It's my first picture where I embraced the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic that has enthralled me for decades. That decision has brought about a significant change in my work; as a result, interesting things have started taking place.

My discovery of the Pre-Raphaelites happened long ago; I've begun a new series, Vision and Beauty, where I talk about the influence the Pre-Raphaelites have had on my work. Parts one and two are now available on my blog, with part three to be published this coming week. https://salvadorcastio.com/vision-and-beauty-part-1/

Mastodon friends and followers, It’s been a while. A few years ago, the wife of a dear friend commissioned me to draw their sphinx cat. Normally I would have said NO to this. I don’t do animal portraits and rarely take commissions. My piece has finally been framed and I could not be happier. #scastio #artist #draughtsman #storyteller #picturemaker #penandink #drawing #animals #blackandwhite #ink #traditionalart #artistonmastodon #art

Ink Stains and Paper Cuts – Salvador Castío

The lines of my drawings have meaning. Every line I make has a story behind it. Those stories come from the past three decades of my life and my current and ongoing adventures. Those stories are a tapestry of people, things, places, and memories. One of these stories is from my first […]

It’s interesting to look back and see where I was a decade ago. This post from March 2013 shows that I was in the process of recouping skill that had been lost during the mid-2000s. My work has changed a lot since then, but I still love this drawing of Amedeo Modigliani. His haunted stare remains the most captivating feature of this portrait.
