For some reason, the reference to the 'Ladies of Partick' on this sign on the Jubilee Gates of Victoria Park of the West of Glasgow always amuses me, possibly because it now comes across as a rather antiquated phrase. The gates themselves were created by the Saracen Foundry in Possilpark and were erected in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's 50th Year on the throne.

Designed by David Watson Stevenson and made by Walter MacFarlane's Saracen Foundry in Possilpark, this cast iron fountain was created for the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park. At the end of the festival it was removed and re-erected in Alexandra Park in 1914.

In addition, if you look very carefully at the right hand side, just below the glazed section, you can see the small tap which would have been turned on to let the gas flow through to the mantle before it was lit. This would have been done each night by one of Glasgow's army of leeries or lamplighters. They'd then return in the morning to turn off the tap, so extinguishing the flame.

A former gas lamp (now converted to an electric one) on North Gate to Victoria Park in the west of Glasgow. It's one of a pair created, along with the rest of the gate, in 1887, by Walter MacFarlane's Saracen Foundry. You can tell it was originally a gas lamp because it has an open base and a vented cap at the top (needed to allow oxygen in to feed the flame).

It was designed in 1935 by Giles Gilbert Scott, the grandson of George Gilbert Scott who designed the main buildings of Glasgow University in the 1860s. This particular kiosk was made at Walter MacFarlane's Saracen Foundry in the Possilpark area of Glasgow.
