I'm revisiting something I wrote about a year ago and feel compelled to share this excerpt from it:

"I thought I wanted to be you, so much so that on dates with men, I started imitating your mannerisms--your ways of speaking and flirting. I have been you so much that I have forgotten what parts of me are you and what parts of me are me. Now, only a decade later, can I say that I wanted to be you because I couldn't have you, so being you was the next best thing. But perhaps I could love myself more if I recognize that I didn't want to be you so much as I wanted to love you."
