“Alex Reeve Givens suggested that #AI companies need something like the #SantaClaraPrinciples, developed a decade ago as a standard for best practices, #transparency and accountability in #ContentModeration decisions." https://www.axios.com/2024/01/24/values-ai-chatgpt-alignment
AI's next fight is over whose values it should hold

There's no such thing as a "values-free" system. That will shape AI's growth in the U.S. and around the globe.

Bluesky users are having a massive #TrustAndSafety conversation in the wake of the #Bluesky team’s decision to platform an individual with a history of violent and hate-driven posts.

In a thread chastising the Bluesky team, one person mentioned the #SantaClaraPrinciples. I’m pretty new to T&S discussions so I had never heard of these before, but I’m so glad I did and I urge others to read them too. It’s not a silver bullet, but it’s a very interesting starting point.

The #SantaClaraPrinciples open letter to #Facebook

What do the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a Danish member of parliament, and a news anchor from the Philippines have in common? They have all been subject to a misapplication of Facebook’s Community Standards. But unlike the average user, each of these individuals and entities received media attention, were able to reach Facebook staff and, in some cases, receive an apology and have their content restored. For most users, content that Facebook removes is rarely restored and some users may be banned from the platform even in the event of an error.

@evacide

Thank you for sharing your experience with us via the link. I found it pretty simple to follow and made a great deal of sense.

Mastodon works using # tag searches so if you don't mind I'd like to add curation. If you don't want that LMK and I'll delete.

@blaine These organizations, and the admins who will use their services, should swear an oath to uphold the #SantaClaraPrinciples too. If an admin, paid or free, would not agree to it, then they should not be allowed to use their blocklists/reports/signals. In the same way, admins should not subscribe to such organizations who doesn't abide by The Santa Clara Principles.

Hey @dharrison, are you aware of the Santa Clara Principles? I mentioned these to @erin as a potential basis for our moderation policies. You might be interested in what they include. https://santaclaraprinciples.org/ I think they’re well founded, and could be a good basis to build ours.

"Zrozumiałe zasady i polityka" :

[Zasada: Instancje powinny publikować w łatwo dostępnym i centralnym miejscu jasne i precyzyjne zasady i polityki dotyczące tego, kiedy zostaną podjęte działania w odniesieniu do treści lub kont użytkowników.

Wprowadzenie w życie: Użytkownicy powinni być w stanie łatwo zrozumieć następujące kwestie:

Jakie rodzaje treści są zabronione na danej instancji i będą usuwane, wraz ze szczegółowymi wskazówkami i przykładami dopuszczalnych i niedopuszczalnych treści;
