Yesterday I steeled my heart and did a houseplant-culling chore I have been putting off for months.
I put out by the side of the road my now spindly and overgrown living room rubber plant and the two huge bromeliads in giant pots. The old plants had gotten messy and sprawling, wrecking my husband's reading corner vibes.
The three glazed pots were beautiful and expensive, so i de-potted the three big plants and wrapped a plastic bag around their rootballs, keeping the pots. It's kind of sad, but they would not respond well to further pruning, but mainly they no longer spark joy for me. I wished them luck. So far, the rubber plant was gone this morning, off to its new home.
In their former spots in the living room, I used the nice pots and repotted two different types of snake plants that I moved from other locations in the house. These two snake plants had been just bursting out of their way-too-small pots, and they now enjoy fresh soil and roomy pots in a great sunny window location in the living room. They go perfectly there. All is now spacious and fresh looking.
The snake/Sansevieria plants are perfect there because they grow vertically and will stay tidier on the big window table there next to my husband's reading chair. He is thrilled. It looks like a 'tableau Rousseau'. My snake plants will love their new pots and new location!
