 Il centro islamico si trova in un quartiere prevalentemente residenziale a circa 14 km a nord del centro di San Diego. Le riprese aeree televisive mostrano decine di auto della polizia nella zona, con numerose strade chiuse al traffico.    

Il governatore: "Siamo grati ai primi soccorritori" 
L'ufficio del governatore Gavin Newsom ha dichiarato che quest'ultimo era stato informato della situazione. "Siamo grati ai primi soccorritori intervenuti sul posto per proteggere la comunità e invitiamo tutti a seguire le indicazioni delle autorità locali", ha scritto il suo ufficio sulla piattaforma social X. Secondo il suo sito web, il Centro Islamico è la moschea più grande della contea di San Diego. Il complesso comprende la scuola Al Rashid, che, sempre secondo il sito, offre corsi di lingua araba, studi islamici e Corano.
La polizia: "Situazione sotto controllo" 
 
Non è chiaro se l'aggressore si trovasse all'esterno o all'interno, né se sia già stato catturato. Il dipartimento di polizia di San Diego ha comunicato che la situazione è "ancora in corso ma sotto controllo".    Le riprese aeree in tv e sui social mostrano una decina di bambini che si tenevano per mano e venivano accompagnati fuori dal parcheggio del centro, circondato da decine di veicoli della polizia.
Il centro islamico di Sand Diego trova in un quartiere di case, appartamenti e centri commerciali con ristoranti e negozi mediorientali. Non è ancora chiaro se ci siano delle vittime nè se l'assalitore sia stato fermato.

The center is located in a predominantly residential neighborhood approximately 14 miles north of downtown San Diego. Aerial television footage shows dozens of police cars in the area, with numerous roads closed to traffic.

Governor: "We are grateful to the first responders"

The office of Governor Gavin Newsom stated that he had been informed of the situation. "We are grateful to the first responders who arrived on the scene to protect the community and we urge everyone to follow the instructions of local authorities," his office wrote on the social media platform X. According to its website, the Islamic Center is the largest mosque in San Diego County. The complex includes the Al Rashid school, which, according to the website, offers Arabic language courses, Islamic studies and the Quran.

Police: "Situation under control"

It is unclear whether the attacker was outside or inside, nor whether he has already been apprehended. The San Diego Police Department has stated that the situation is “still ongoing but under control.” TV and social media aerial footage shows about ten children holding hands and being led out of the parking lot of the center, surrounded by dozens of police vehicles.
The San Diego Islamic Center is located in a neighborhood of houses, apartments and shopping centers with Middle Eastern restaurants and shops. It is not yet clear if there are any fatalities or if the assailant has been arrested.

Holy crap! As I was driving back to work from surfing today I saw no fewer than 7 SDPD SUVs flying down the 56 west, lights and sirens on. Like, faster than I've ever seen a squad car go. I thought maybe there was a car chase.

Turns out, two teenage dipsh*ts tried to shoot up the Islamic Center off Balboa Ave and murdered 3 people. Then they took pot shots at a landscaper, before killing themselves in their truck. Cops found them dead in their cars. Given the time it took for cops to arrive, this probably could've been worse. I guess we should be glad they targeted themselves rather than continuing to shoot at innocents, but still it's such a tragedy.

I'm surprised I didn't see this on Mastodon. An Italian post tagged #sandiego and I had to translate it to figure out what happened, then go search for it in English.
