I had fond memories of the first Bendis run of Sam and Twitch, so I thought I'd reread it. This compendium contains both volumes (Case Files as well) and a miniseries (The Writer). In that order, the quality does decline steadily π The Bendis run holds up well; it is clearly early work that somewhat resembles his crime work. Jinx even pops up in two issues. The last few issues of the first series were unfortunately written by McFarlane... that is clearly not his cup of tea... writing π«£
I was pleasantly surprised by the Case Files series written by Andreyko. Sometimes a bit clichΓ©, but he finds creative ways to tell stories (visually as well), and it is all nice and dark and gruesome. The miniseries at the end is mediocre and also deviates from the rest in terms of art style: too much color and clear lines. Cherry on top: all covers by Ashley Wood, and Wood is always good (that rhymes π). Still highly recommended, nice crime for a Sunday afternoon π€
