The power plants of Salmisaari about two weeks ago, a constant thorn in my side when I visit the western coastline of Helsinki. At least they lined up nicely with the treeline. Hmm, come to think of it, I kinda like how the power plants stick out like a sore thumb in an otherwise stereotypical sunset landscape photo.

How Finland has replaced coal power with wind in less than 10 years.

Power utility company Helen officially decommissioned its Salmisaari plant in Helsinki on 1 April, dropping coal to a less than 1% share of the country’s energy mix.

The closure of a coal power plant in Finland today brings the country to the brink of a full coal phase-out - four years ahead of schedule.

Waiting for spring in Helsinki about a week ago.

I often visit this location in Seurasaari to photograph the view: bedrock ground smooth by the last ice age, boulders that the glaciers left behind, the Baltic Sea and Helsinki in the background. Although the power plant in Salmisaari isn't particularly pretty. Fortunately there was a person walking along the water's edge. As I noticed that they were approaching the "correct" place in the scene, I almost ran to this spot to take the photo. It turned out decent, I guess.
