Second episode of #TheLegendOfRosyClouds feels a little less rushed.
But very focused on the main characters.

It's been a while since I read or watched #SaiunkokuMonogatari, so I have some trouble figuring out who is who. I'd appreciate the supporting cast to show up more, so I might remember.

@liztai it doesn’t really sound like your kind of thing, but it’s suddenly been announced that ***The Legend of Rosy Clouds*** has cleared the final hurdles and will be premiering starting this Saturday, June 20th.

For anime fans, this may be a good crossover to check out Cdramas.

A new trailer and character posters were released yesterday with the announcement. So far, it’s just listed as being available on iQIYI and YOUKU.

(Joesph) Zeng Shunxi and Li Jitong are the main leads, with Deng Wei.

Production was done three years ago in 2023, but there were unresolved IP issues that held things up. It was announced that the IP was resolved in December 2025 but it looks like it took much of this year so far to clear national censorship review.

It’s based on a well known Japanese light novel series Saiunkoku Monogatari” (彩雲国物語) by Yukino Sai (雪乃紗衣). set in an imaginary kingdom based on ancient China. It’s been adapted to both manga and manhua as well as anime. The two series anime version was titled *Saiunkoku Monogatari* and ran 2006-2008.

From the trailers, it appears that there will be major changes from the manga and anime adaptations. Noticeably, there will be greater narrative emphasis on the romance, including a romantic triangle, than in the anime (which largely ignored it). Also, it seems that the Emperor may have been shifted to be a governor of 9 cities.

In any event, it looks to be large ensemble comedy/adventure with a number of currently up and coming young Idol cdrama leads and second leads in the supporting cast, including Tian Jiarui, Cheng Hongxin, and Canadian (Riley) Wang Yulin. Fans are already grumbling though that the voicing is mainly through voice actors, while the new trend is towards original actors’ voices.

All said though, despite it adding belatedly to an already packed June release schedule, it’s likely to draw a lot of attention and viewers.

The new trailer released by the production team places more emphasis on the ensemble but no subtitles yet. I’ll post when there’s a usable link outside Mainland social media.
