My mother was born in #Aardenburg, #ZeeuwsVlaanderen when the Canadians liberated that part in the #BattleOfTheScheldt. Shrapnel hit her cradle but not her. They fled to a small farm outside the village (photo 1). Later they got a house on the edge of the village which had been a #flax factory ("vlasserij") with a shed for my grandfather's horse (photo 2). He was a gendarme. Their local barracks also had stables (photo 3). My mother was baptised in the #SaintBavo #Church (photo 4).
