#Platform #operators of the #decentralised #socialweb, like #Mastodon and #Bluesky, can limit #copyrightliability by following the #DMCA #safeharbour provisions. This includes designating a contact for infringement notices, responding promptly to notices and counter-notices, having a repeat infringer policy, not ignoring known infringement, and avoiding encouraging infringement. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/copyright-and-dmca-best-practices-fediverse-operators?Fedizen.EU #Fedizen #Fediverse #ActivityPub #News
Copyright and DMCA Best Practices for Fediverse Operators

People building the future of the social web—interoperable and decentralized—need to protect themselves against copyright liability. This post gives an overview of the steps to take. It’s meant for operators of Mastodon and other ActivityPub servers, Bluesky hosts, RSS mirrors, and other decentralized social media protocols, and developers of apps for those protocols—but it will apply to other hosts as well.

Safe Harbour - Reding warns US that progress is needed before summer

@ppcland This is laughable. Have they not learnt anything? Do they not remember why #safeharbour failed? Do they not remember why #privacyshield failed?
They still want to force the same square peg in the same round hole.

Do we really need to wait for @maxschrems to make it all the way to the european court of justice *again*, to make it clear once and for all that the only way this #cloudact will ever really be valid, is when not european laws are changed, but when american laws are changed ?

@bartgroothuis Right! Also thanks for a well spoken tv interview on #npo #nieuwsuur last evening. I heard many good thing. One caveat: the easy with which you would allow turning over that same #energy infrastructure to Japan, South-Korea and/or the USA was puzzling to me. I would like to have seen some nuance to that.
If we learned anything from the fauilure of #safeharbour, #privacyshield, etc is that they failed because US private and gov. interests always 'trump' EU's
📌 Reminder: The due date to furnish Form 3CEFB for exercising safe harbour rules for specified domestic transactions is 30th November 2024. Ensure compliance with income tax provisions to avoid any challenges.
