I was fortunate to visit #Sacromonte - a neighbourhood found on the eastern hillside of the valley in which Granada (Andalusia) sits. Remarkably, the residents live in #caves that were dug around 500 years ago, thought to be dwellings for marginalised people (think Spanish Inquisition).

The community is still somewhat distinct from the modernity of #Granada but despite the deprivation (Southern Spain is generally suffering from unemployment, low tourism), the community is extraordinarily lively and warm.

The gentleman who welcomed us into his home, was incredibly friendly and happy to talk about his life and the community. This photo is of the bedroom he shares with his wife - all excavated by hand. With a rich #Romani heritage, this is one of the most intriguing communities I've seen in the world.
