#NowReading The Locked Room by Elly Griffiths

I tore through the “Ruth Galloway” series a few months back, but stopped reading partway through this book. The next to last in the run, I had long since noted how formulaic the books had become, although I still liked the characters. I’m waiting for my library hold for the next Charles Todd mystery to come up, so I decided to finish the Griffiths books while I wait.

One plot element that I’m heartily tired of is the main character’s love life. And I’m not fond of how religion is used to increase turmoil between characters, or just as a plot device.

Also, in the earlier books, Shit Goes On In Chapter Twenty-One. Although, this book has many shorter chapters, so it may be Shit Happens To Ruth in Chapter The Forty-Twoth.

When I resume reading the Charles Todd books, I’ll be comparing the writing to the Griffiths books, watching for patterns.

I’ve also been bingeing the #RuthGalloway books, and while I know it’s a very popular series, I keep having this… itch… to write something less formulaic. She has a wonderful way with dialogue and clever twists, but I’ve always spotted the tip of the spinning top around which the whole plot turns.

Griffiths’ characters are likeable, but I want to write about somebody unlikeable, who solves the crimes that nobody cares about.

Review – The Crossing Places by Elly Griffiths – Steve Ince – Writer and Artist

Been reading Ruth Galloway mysteries and decided I needed to try some of the foods. . .

Beans on toast? Meh.
Marmite? Omg that's gross!!!

The Last Remains by the fabulous @ellygriffiths does not need amplifying, because everyone loves the Ruth Galloway series, but I can’t help myself. I came to these books a bit late but have read all of them and all of Griffiths’ other series too. I’m sad the series has come to an end but what a brilliant way to round things off. Now, when will someone adapt these for television? #ruthgalloway #ellygriffiths #books #audiobooks @bookstodon
