Photographs from a SoraNews24 article on Michi no Eki Minami Kiyosato (Yamanashi Pref.) show that compact monorails already exist.
The return fare for the ride probably reflects the tourist attraction aspect in the Minami Kiyosato example and would need to come down to the level of a local bus ride for everyday use in remote rural settings.

It's kind of worse than that. According to the #TravelineScotland app, which *I believe* is Scottish Government sponsored, there are now no busses to or from here at all. In fact I know this is false, since I have seen one bus stop at the end of our lane since the timetable change. But what the schedule for that bus is, or how I find out what the schedule is, I don't know.

This will leave many people without transport alternatives and will have consequences for forced car-ownership, road safety, rural isolation, and transport emissions.
