Nice 15km run today. The goal was neither distance nor speed, but time in the shoes. I was going for low-to-moderate effort for a long time, to remind the heart and lungs (and legs) what to do. This was my first post-injury long run, and it felt pretty solid through mile 8, though the last 1.33 miles were a little tough.
Set out to run 10k but felt good, so I ran 7 miles instead.
Just had one of the worst runs I've had probably in years, and for no particular reason. Sometimes this is an early indicator that I'm about to come down with a cold or the like.
Still, 3 miles on the books...
Better feeling 10km this week than last week, started out slow and tapered off and never had my heart rate run away from me. This time I stayed relatively close to home, because there's a cold storm approaching and if it started to rain, I wanted to be close enough to home to short-cut back.
Fortunately, I didn't get rained on, and after I got warm, the cool air felt pretty good.
VO2max is now staying consistently at 42; not bad for a 48-year-old guy, but my goal is still to get it up to 45. More HIIT in my future.
Not a fast 5k, but a consistent one, and without stopping. I ran this deliberately slowly, because I'd done some much faster running over the weekend and needed a slow, gentle, clean and consistent recovery run.
I'm the only person I know who can tweak his back while running... indoors... on a treadmill.
Today's goal was duration + very minimal stopping/walking, with a plan of doing two slow miles, two faster miles, and two slow miles again, with a short fast run at the end for the last 0.2mi.
Fairly successful. Over time I want to pick up the pace and get everything a little more consistent, but it feels good to have the duration back.
