I guess you can't really call it a heat wave anymore; the weather looks like it'll stay this way for now. It's a bit worrying. But the Rudel is holding up well; our walks are slower, and the kite that's keeping an eye on us is getting more relaxed. All in all, a nice day.

This heat wave is a bit exhausting. But friends in France have told us it’s 41 degrees C there, so we’re actually doing pretty well with our 33 degrees C. Unfortunately, the rain that was forecast never came, but the ground is still moist enough. For now. But for now, we’re enjoying the cool of the night and the fact that our apartment has windows facing in all directions, so the breeze can gently sweep through. In any case, the Rudel is very content and tired after two walks on the meadow.

Today was World Sleep Day, which is certainly the best idea given the current temperatures. But of course the Rudel wanted to go out, and as there are some trees in the meadow, we took plenty of breaks in the shade – all the dogs are very happy. Now we can air the place out, but apparently Germany are playing football at the moment; at least that’s what the pub next door is shouting into the night. We’ll let them have their fun and are enjoying frozen yoghurt with sheep’s cheese (and the chronicler, a cold beer). A lovely day.

Another very, very hot day on the edge of the Swabian Alb. The Rudel had a varied day – though Ici, the old lady, didn’t, of course. But Tapis and Éclaire were allowed to come into the office after their morning walk, and because the town fair was being set up in the town centre, it was all very exciting. Then a long evening walk, during which a thunderstorm rumbled down from the Alb, and finally a beer with friends in the courtyard. A long and lovely day.

Phew, it really was a warm day, but just a foretaste of what’s to come over the next few days. The Rudel is debating whether there really is such a thing as climate change, but we suspect it’s not a good sign. At least the nights are still reasonably cool, and our old house retains the night-time chill. Still, it was a lovely day – we were able to take it easy.

The heatwave has reached southern Germany; it was 33 degrees C today and it’s set to get even warmer over the next few days. It’s a good thing the ladies are completely heat-resistant, and Tapis can take the odd little break in the shade. We’ve got plenty of time, after all. The Peugeot-product was in for its service, and we’ve been given a huge ‘land yacht’ by some friends. It was too high for Ici, but she was happy to be lifted into it. No SUVs for us 😄

The working week has begun, but it’s not going to be stressful because the management team will be away on a training course for the rest of the week. Very pleasant.
Out on the meadow, the wind has shifted from north-west to south-west. It’s going to get warm – we’re expecting temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius over the next few days – but we can always escape into the woods. In any case, the Rudel is very happy.

Not having to work on Mondays is quite a privilege. We spent nearly three hours outside, whilst the chronicler cleaned the kitchen, the bathroom and a few windows, prepared meals in advance for the week, and gave the Rudel a good brush and plenty of cuddles. A lovely start to the week.

Aaand go. It’s already been a perfect summer Sunday. 22 degrees C, a fresh breeze and the scent of freshly mown grass in the air. The Rudel is very happy. And in the evening, there was the monthly Taizé service – a lovely weekend.
