Überall auf dem Peloponnes treffe ich auf Ziegen. Viele kleinere Herden werden noch traditionell gehalten, teils mit Wanderweide, teils in einfachen Steinpferchen. Das Meckern der Ziegen gehört hier zu den Geräuschen der Berge, so selbstverständlich wie das Zirpen der Grillen.

Die Straßen im zentralen-nördlichen Binnenland Siziliens führen mich über den Portella Femmina Morta. Der Pass verbindet Nicosia mit Gangi durch enge Serpentinen, die sich hoch zu weiten Hochplateaus öffnen. Früher zogen hier Hirten mit Vieh und Holz über die alte Trazzera, einen überlieferten Handelsweg durch die Nebrodi.

Years ago my grandmother had a wooden picket fence installed for her dog. When the dog passed she chose not to get another dog and had the fence removed. The fence was transported to my dad's house and has laid against the outside wall for years. Well its a bit rotted at the tops of the pickets but the entire fence is in relatively good shape. I used parts of it today to fence off a piece of the yard for my dogs.
