We moved around a lot when I was a kid, so I had to start over a lot, and I've never had a move from one place to another that wasn't at least a little traumatizing. Something horrible always happens in the process. One of those horrible things is always a loss of friendships and personal connections, some more traumatizing than others. There are people who have touched my life that I would give most anything to get back.

This applies approximately equally to internet community collapses. They always suck. They always hurt. Someone always gets left behind.
