The Doctor Who 60th anniversary special outraged some reactionary snowflakes when the Doctor apologized to an alien for assuming their pronouns. It's an alien. Could anyone instantly know their gender at first sight?
There's been an older clip going around of an episode from 1972 (Third Doctor) in which the characters discuss an alien's pronouns. The Doctor has recognized the importance of respecting one's gender identity for a long time.
Also, young Rose is a wonderful character, and I hope we see more of her!
