Desde el primer tráiler aposté por la simpatía con Rooster. Parecía una serie amable con un Carell en su salsa.
Una vez estrenada y con los primeros capítulos vistos, mis percepciones se confirmaron. De ahí los escollos.
El hándicap de la serie de Bill Lawrence (creador de Scrubs, Ted Lasso o Terapia sin filtro, todas mejores que la presente) es quedarse en el tráiler, sin mejorarlo.
Esta serie es muy plana, desmerece estar en una plataforma con tanta -y merecida- solera. Pensemos que comparte sitio con un clásico contemporáneo como Hacks. No hay más aportaciones, señoría.
Tan amable es la historia de Greg y Katie Russo que resbala. No es ya que le falte hondura sino que tampoco logra generar impactos, ese veneno fácil -sobre todo procedente de titulares capciosos y videos cortos- para mantener nuestra atención. Eso también se la pela.
Hay historia y también historias potenciales en ese campus, lo que ocurre es que nos son vetadas. A cambio se nos da una pincelada de todo, como si la serie fuese un tráiler extendido, un tráiler de sí misma. Donde nos prometían sexo nos acaban mostrando la puntita.
Charly Clive y Carell funcionan bien. Sus personajes tienen una dinámica buena, favorecen réplicas cómplices y creíbles. Pero no hay mucho que replicarse. Las tramas son conversaciones de ascensor.
Walter Mann, el decano gym bro, no impresiona con sus exhibiciones de torso, y el ex no ex da pena. Son young adults sin fuste. Para colmo Dylan Shepherd, un personaje prometedor, queda relegada entre tanta falta de sustancia.
Rooster es una producción simpática, que huye de provocar carcajadas o hacer pupa desde el humor, ideal para tener de fondo mientras se mira el teléfono. Una muesca en su brillante ecosistema.
