Saundra and the Vandellas. There's something familiar about that name.

Evidently "It's Gonna Be Hard Times" did not make either the Billboard pop or rhythm and blues charts. It is quite good though.

THE CHARTBUSTERS
"SHE'S THE ONE"

The Chartbusters - She's The One (1964)
TheLimePopsicle

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chartbusters+she%27s+the+one

The Chartbusters played the Brewer Auditorium in Maine, largely on the strength of the band's chart hit, "She's the One." It was my introduction to this Washington DC outfit. The YouTube caption says, "This group was one of the inspirations for the movie, 'That Thing You Do.'" "Why (Doncha Be My Girl)" was the next [Chartbusters] single. Romantic difficulties seems to have emerged as a theme.

"She's the One" charted in August 1964, reaching No. 33 and remaining on the Billboard Top 40 for three weeks.

By the way, the vocal on "That Thing You Do" was performed by ex-Bostonian Mike Viola.

My copy gives the title as "Grandpaw Can Boogie Too."

Evidently this record did not make the Billboard rhythm and blues chart. At YouTube, it is variously dated to 1952 or 1953.

This may be something of an oldies obscurity, but it is quite good.

Evidently when "The All American Boy" was playing in 1958 and (mostly) 1959, I was listening the other way. I gave this a try at Bandcamp and bought it; but for some reason, evidently it is no longer available there. Too bad but we still have YouTube. This track is really quite good.

Tommy Edwards - Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_DWxUb0vjs

One of the greats of rock oldies, "It's All in the Game" was written by Carl Sigman (lyrics) and Charles Gates Dawes (music). This Tommy Edwards hit is the only Billboard No. 1 record written by a vice president of the United States. Charles G. Dawes served under Vermont native Calvin Coolidge ("Silent Cal"). Any vice president who is an aspiring songwriter will have trouble topping this gem.

"It's All in the Game" remained in the Billboard No. 1 position for six weeks in 1958. Tommy Edwards reached the Billboard Top 40 six times, but "It's All in the Game" was by far his biggest hit.

This title is variously given as "Moon Rise" or "Moonrise." Some may know this vocal group as Hank Ballard and the Midnighters.

"Moonrise" is dated 1952. This record is not listed in my Billboard rhythm and blues Top 40 book, so evidently it did not chart. It's pretty good though.
