Bonus: After the documentary there’s an hour long concert focused on songs that didn’t make the record. After all, as Little Steven says, the band recorded about 70 songs and only eight made Darkness…

Towards the end Bruce, of course, gets at the heart of the record when he says it’s about “losing your illusions while at the same time holding onto some sense of possibility. How do you deal with those things and move onto a creative life, a satisfying life.”

Today that meant time for rewatching The Promise: the Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town on YouTube https://youtu.be/9kij1MDQzuU

You really don’t need to be a Bruce Springsteen fan to enjoy this, I think anyone into classic rock or interested in how the music sausage gets made will get a lot out of it because of how much good film was shot in 1977 in the studio while the guys were actually making the record.
